Description vbindoka 2015-05-26 04:02:08 CDT
It seems micro-manager developer site can NOT be turned off for Fiji and keeps re-checking the update site checkbox by itself. Uninstalling mm reloads mm on the next restart!
I would bet most fiji installations have no need of microscope/hardware control.
Why is it a phoenix?

I wasn't able to reproduce this behavior - on OSX 10.10.3 with Java 1.6.0_65 I can add the micro-manager-dev update site, and subsequently disable it with no problem.

My first guess would be that there is some negative interaction with another update site. The wiki[1] outlines a search technique to identify problematic update sites/plugins - would you be able to test in this manner?

As a side note, this update site isn't on the public list[2] and I couldn't find any documentation about it - where did you find it?

Finally, you may also want to try the Micro-Manager mailing list[3] since they would be the maintainers of this update site, if it is intended for public use.

Best,
Mark

I revisited this issue after another user mailed about it on the ImageJ list.

I noticed you have the OpenSPIM update site enabled. It looks like that update site silently enables micro-manager-dev (as OpenSPIM uses micromanager). Unfortunately there is no other indication that the two are tied together and attempting to disable micromanager-dev produces the behavior you observed (which is somewhat reasonable given that you still have OpenSPIM enabled, which still requires micromanager).

However, when I tried uninstalling both update sites simultaneously I got an error message. I believe you need to:

1. Uninstall OpenSPIM and restart Fiji.
2. Uninstall micro-manager-dev and restart Fiji.

This is certainly terrible and confusing. In the short term, it's up to the OpenSPIM team to decide if the update site behavior will change[1]. In the long term, we need a more robust update site mechanic which can properly express dependencies[2].
