Description devs87 2016-03-23 01:51:14 CDT
Hi,

I have spent the last few hours trying to install ImageJ or Fiji on my Windows7 but without any success. I download the zip folder, extract the files and run the exe (ImageJ exe for ImageJ download and ImageJ-win64.exe from the Fiji App folder). I found it unusual that the Fiji app folder did not have a fiji-win64 application file like the wiki page describes. The reason I think there is a bug, is because neither my ImageJ download or Fiji download resulted in an installed program under Programs and Features on the Control Panel. Is that normal? How do I make sure the installation is complete and do I need to access the .exe file each time I need to open and use the program? Please advice!

From the Downloads page:

> ImageJ is distributed as a portable application. That means that you
> do not have to run an installer; just download, unpack and start it.

In other words: nothing will ever be put into "Program Files" or similar. Just create a shortcut to the ImageJ-win64.exe and you should be good to go!

If you really want the Fiji icon instead, you can run Help > Update..., click Advanced mode, change the view to "All files", type "fiji-win64" into the box, and mark the "fiji-win64.exe" file for installation. Then you'll have another launcher which also starts the program, but has the Fiji icon instead of the ImageJ2 one.

As for the wiki page, I presume you mean the "Install Fiji on Windows" page (http://imagej.net/Install_Fiji_on_Windows)? Apologies that those pages are out of date; no one has had time to update them. Feel free to do so, if you wish -- it would help others in the future to avoid confusion!
