Description Johannes Schindelin 2010-08-22 17:31:14 CDT
So it seems that UTF-8 is not supported. The symptom is 'undef error - Insecure dependency in exec while running with -T switch at /usr/share/perl5/Mail/Mailer/sendmail.pm line 23.' when trying to send an attachment with UTF-8 in it.

This bug was started to try to resolve the issue. Therefore, we need UTF-8 in every single attachment: “This is quoted” using UTF-8 quotes.

To make extra sure that the bug triggers: ?? bottles of beer on the wall, ?? bottles of beer. Take one down, pass it around, ?? bottles of beer on the wall.

The following steps have been tried to solve the issue. First, Intrepid's version of libmailtools-perl (2.05-1) was installed. Did not change a thing.

Then, the diff from the bug report at
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/attachment.cgi?id=237449&action=diff was inspected. Alas, it seems that Ubuntu's version of bugzilla 2.22.1-2 has a backport of the relevant part in Bugzilla/Util.pm (all the rest of the diff seems to revolve around changing passwords).

This is (please check all answers that apply):

? annoying for people whose name must be written using UTF-8 characters,
? fixed

As pointed out here:
http://fixunix.com/mozilla/414562-re-insecure-dependency-exec-while-running-t-switch-atsendmail-pm-line.html

Comment 5 of the original bug report with BugZilla has a workaround, which I put into /usr/share/perl5/Mail/Mailer.pm/sendmail.pm:

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/﷒0﷓

I do not think that this can break anything, given that ASCII-only messages go via the same code path.

And here the obligatory UTF-8 to test: ? e2 e4.
