I'm using Windows XP SP3 (32bit). ImageJ 1.45l; Java 1.6.0_24 [32bit]; 746 commands; 11 macros

When performing the "Update Fiji" operation a new version of "fiji-win32.exe" is available. When I hit "apply changes" the program downloads the file, reports the installation as successfull and tells you to restart Fiji.

I use Norton 360 Premier Edition (v 5.1.0.29), which promptly flashes up a warning message and deletes all copies of the new "fiji-win32.exe" file, claiming that it is a threat. To restore the old version of Fiji, I had to go to the Fiji directory and rename. "fiji-win32.exe.old" to "fiji-win32.exe" again.

I also tried briefly disabling the anti-virus software to download the new version, which works. However, as soon as it is enabled again, it deletes the new exe file. I also tried downloading the file manually from http://fiji.sc/update/ with the same result.

Norton reports as follows:

http://securityresponse.symantec.com/security_response/writeup.jsp?docid=2010-090201-1030-99

http://safeweb.norton.com/report/show?url=http://fiji.sc/update/fiji-win32.exe-20110713232439

While I understand that this is not necessarily a problem with Fiji and does not mean that your files are necessarily a threat (particularly with the reports at the links above), I thought it should be brought to your attention as I believe Symantec has a method of reviewing files and having them added to a trusted list. While I can, restore and exclude the file from Norton scan list on my computer, this is not something straightforward for other everyday Fiji/Norton users.

Since you are a customer of Symantec, I would like to ask you to report their mistake to them so they can fix their detection code. I am sure that fiji-win32.exe has no evil code in it since I compiled it myself and am responsible for the majority of the code.
