This happened with a recent update of ImageJA, right? Could you please make a screenshot, attach it here, then Help>Update ImageJ to the daily build and make another screenshot and also attach it so I can see the difference? Thanks!

This bug also exists in 64-bit.  The dialog box gives a directory name and will not permit chosing the first file.

It is possible that this is intended behavior (yes, it changed in the last few ImageJ versions). The image sequence importer is now supposed to take a directory rather than the first file. Is this a resolution of this issue?

In ImageJ 1.45n or later, you can get the previous look and feel by enabling the  "Use file chooser to import sequences" option in the Edit>Options>Input/Output dialog box.
