In the Options dropdown menu in Advanced mode of the new Update manager, when you choose the option that is already active, it gets unchecked (checkmark is gone). After that, the list of plugins doesn't update automatically any more upon changing the checked option.
Only typing in the search bar leads to an update in the plugin list.

(observed on MacOSX 10.5.8 and Java 1.6.0 with the new Plzen-rc1)

Sorry, what exactly do you mean by "checkmark"?  I cannot reproduce any of what I think you meant on Linux...

Well, on Mac there's a small checkmark on the left of the current selection. (See attachment) When you click it, it disappears and the list of plugins stops being refreshed, even for all further clicks.
